DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Last week's business took place mostly
on Wednesday, with a little cleanup on Thursday and Friday.
Southern live trade had a full range of $118 to $122, mostly
$121, $4 higher than last week's weighted averages. Northern
dressed deals had a full range of $192 to $196, mostly $195
to $196, roughly $5 to $6 higher than the bulk of the prior
week's trade. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price
totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are
listed in parentheses): KS $120.33($117.12); NE $195.26
($189.51); TX $120.22($116.48); IA $195.19($189.30); CO
$122.15($117.66).
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 21,343; NE
30,255; TX 13,358; IA 25,423, CO 4,322. Friday's slaughter
totaled 111,000 head, 6,000 more than the prior week and
24,000 greater than the previous year. Saturday's kill was
estimated at 66,000 head, bringing the weekly total to
641,000 head, 32,000 larger than the week before, and 112,000
above 2020.
DTN COMMENTS: A typically quiet Monday morning with bids and
asking prices not established as of yet, and significant trade
volume will likely be delayed until the second half of the
week. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with generally
light box movement.
For the week ending April 03, 2021, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 38,841, 97.02% of the previous week
and 98.93% of the 4-week average.
